Pregnant woman killed in New Year's Day crash by speeding driver: CHP

A pregnant woman was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Gilroy on New Year's Day, the California Highway Patrol said.

The woman, who was not publicly named, was 29 years old, a Gilroy resident, and a passenger of the 2021 Chevrolet SUV that was hit head-on. Officials said the incident occurred around 6:35 p.m. on Leavesley Road.

Officials said a 50-year-old driver, only identified as Mr. Temores, was allegedly speeding eastbound on Leavesley Road with his GMC truck when he veered into the westbound lane where the Chevrolet was.

Officials identified the Chevrolet driver as Mr. Gonzalez Mora.

Behind Gonzalez Mora was a Honda sedan driver, 34-year-old Mr. Tobar.

According to CHP's investigation, Temores hit Gonzalez Mora's car before hitting Tobar's car.

It's unclear what injuries Tobar and Gonzalez Mora sustained.

Temores was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail without bail.

CHP officials said they also believe alcohol played a factor in the fatal crash. Anyone with information about the crash or dashcam footage is asked to contact Officer M. Bueno or Officer A. Uribe at (408) 427-0700.
