Despite California losing a congressional seat for the first time because of slow population growth, the high price of living and some high-profile technology companies like Hewlett-Packard and Oracle leaving the state, there is no evidence of an abnormal increase in residents planning to move out of the state, according to the results of a new survey released this week by the University of California. SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Another Bay Area-based company is packing up and moving its offices to Texas, joining the likes of Chevron, Oracle and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, a few of the many corporations ditching the Golden State.
Realtor.com, which currently operates in Santa Clara, is relocating its corporate headquarters to Austin, Texas.
In a news release Friday, the real estate company mentioned the Lone Star State's booming housing market.
Realtor.com cited its recent report predicting that Texas will surpass California as the most-populous state by 2045.
"According to the report, top reasons people move to Texas are for plentiful jobs, affordable housing, and a different climate, and primarily come from California and abroad," the company said.
The real estate company says it has made Austin its primary hiring location and has "committed to the long-term growth of its team and office footprint in Texas."
The company was founded in 1996 and was originally headquartered in San Jose.

Chevron announced in August that it plans to move its headquarters from San Ramon to Houston, Texas.
In 2020, Oracle said it would be moving its Redwood City offices to Texas.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced its move out of the Bay Area that same year.
