An early-season offshore wind event is setting up for this weekend as conditions come together for heightened fire danger in the Bay Area.

A red flag warning has been issued for the North and East Bay hills and also the interior valleys of the East Bay starting Friday at 11 p.m. and extending thru 6 a.m. Monday.

Winds turn offshore Friday evening and are expected to be out of the north ranging from 15 to 30mph with gusts upwards of 40mph. In addition, warmer weekend temperatures, lowering relative humidity levels, and dry vegetation from a season of below-average rainfall exacerbate the situation. Any fire that ignites could spread easily under these conditions so precautions are advised
