LOS ANGELES - What is REALLY in the meat of your favorite fast food restaurants? The second annual report, coauthored by six nonprofit activist organizations including the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Consumers Union, examined antibiotics in the meat supply at our largest fast food restaurants.
Why does this matter? Dr. Sanjay Gupta told CNN, “Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest health threats facing us today. We’ve taken too many drugs, and as a result, they don’t work the way they used to.”
Panera and Chipotle came out on top two years in a row. They are the only two restaurants in the study who serve a multitude of antibiotic free meats.
Subway gets the award of “most improved” after it brought it’s grade up from an F all the way to a B after instituting a new policy on antibiotics in the meat it serves.
Chick-fil-A also received a B after converting 23% of its chicken supply to chicken raised entirely antibiotic free.
McDonald’s improved to a C+ after transitioning its chicken supply to 100% antibiotics free and Wendy’s earned a C with 50% of its chicken being antibiotic free.
Taco bell received a C-, and Pizza Hut and Papa John’s received D grades. Despite their low grades, Pizza Hut and Papa John’s assure us they had perfect attendance and they’re trying real hard!
