SAN JOSE, Calif. (KTVU) - A San Jose State University water polo player, accused of sexually assaulting two women, has apparently left the country.
Two female students came forward to report the international freshman water polo player had raped them at an off-campus party during Labor Day weekend.
The school is refusing to identify the athlete, or his native country.
Following the allegations, he was interviewed by campus officials and San Jose Police.
He denied the women's claims.
But the university suspended him, which meant he was banned from walking onto school grounds, or participating in school activities, such as sporting events or practices.
He was never arrested or charged, but the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office is reviewing the matter.
However, he may have left the country. But the university tells the paper, that he is still enrolled at the school and a member of the water polo team.
Wednesday afternoon, the University president sent an email to faculty, students and staff.
"These deeply troubling reports first came to the attention of university staff last month. Because they occurred off campus, city of San Jose police (SJPD) have led the criminal investigation. I am told that the case is now being reviewed by the Santa Clara District Attorney’s office," wrote President Mary Papazian.
She continues to say pending the investigation, the accused student has been placed on interim suspension, barred from campus, and ordered to stay away from the victims.
