OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - A van plunged off a surface street in Oakland into the waters of the Oakland Estuary shortly after 8 a.m. and the driver did not survive, an Alameda County Sheriff's Office spokesman said today.
The man has been identified as 68-year-old Paul Douglas Scherer of Alameda, according to the Alameda County coroner.
The Sheriff's Office's dive team assisted the Oakland Fire Department in the recovery of the vehicle, said Sgt. Ray Kelly.
