Video: Pro-Palestine protester climbs Union Square's Christmas tree, SFPD says avoid area

Reports circling social media show pro-Palestine demonstrations happening in the area, including an instance where a protester climbed the Union Square Christmas Tree.

San Francisco city officials said the pro-Palestine protesters have been cleared from Union Square following their demonstration. In a tweet, city officials said "incident in the area of Union Square has been resolved" in an update. Residents should still expect residual traffic delays.

Around 2 p.m., some protesters gathered in the area of Union Square's Christmas tree. One protester also climbed the tree, hung a Palestinian flag, and placed a "Free Palestine" poster on the tree.

The protester was also seen throwing ornaments towards the ground in the video.

Several protesters were arrested for crimes ranging from assault to felony vandalism causing property damage, police said.

Officers remain in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the San Francisco Police Department at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 beginning the message with SFPD.
