RICHMOND, Calif. (KTVU) - A Richmond woman spoke with KTVU candidly about those who shot up her home, injuring her son.
"Do people think this is some sort of game!" said Ann Cyrus. The 60-year-old grandmother was home Tuesday when someone pulled in front of her house on Chanslor Avenue and opened fire around 8 p.m.
Cyrus' 18-year-old son was shot in the leg. She told KTVU her son was targeted simply for knowing a person suspected of killing a man in Richmond earlier this month.
"I don't know if they think killing one of us will bring their loved one back or give them some sort of satisfaction, but it's not. It's not," she said.
Fearful the gunman will return to finish the job, Cyrus checked into a motel.
She said it's not fair - the ongoing street violence has left innocent people feeling like hostages.
"This can't go on. They're bullying the community," Cyrus said.
Richmond police told KTVU they have received leads on the identity of Tuesday's shooter.
Cyrus is tired of beefs on the street leading to bloodshed with innocent victims often caught in the crossfire.
"It's come time for us to stand up," said Cyrus. "We have to say no more. No more death. No more violence."
Until the shooter is caught, the Richmond woman will make that plea from a tiny motel room.
Cyrus hopes her message will reach the neighborhood.
"It hurts me to see the children of this community, feed on each other, like piranhas," she said.
