A 'robo' drug deal on the 10100 block of Foothill Boulevard in East Oakland turned into a deadly shootout.
(KTVU) - Here's the Rap Sheet for Feb. 17, 2016:
SHOOTOUT AFTER 'ROBO' DRUG DEAL: Two men tried to rob a woman in East Oakland, and one of them ended up getting in a shootout that killed a third man acting as the woman’s guard, authorities said today.
Michael Gonzalez-Navarro, 22, of Oakland and Hector Manuel Gonzalez, 20, of San Leandro have each been charged by Alameda County prosecutors with murder in the Feb. 8 shooting death of Quentin Robinson, 29.
Each man was also charged with the special circumstance of murder in the course of a robbery, making them eligible for life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty if convicted. Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek capital punishment.
Robinson was shot about 5:20 p.m. on the 10100 block of Foothill Boulevard in East Oakland.
Authorities said the shooting erupted from a would-be drug deal in which a woman, identified in court records as Jennifer Marie Orr, had hoped to sell “robo,” or dextromethorphan, the active ingredient in some cold medicines, to the defendants.
But Gonzalez-Navarro and Gonzalez decided to rob Orr instead, investigators say.
That’s when Robinson, who was accompanying Orr as a “guard” in the drug deal, pulled out a gun to defend the woman and opened fire, hitting Gonzalez-Navarro. Gonzalez-Navarro also brandished a gun and shot and killed Robinson, authorities said.
Video surveillance caught the shooting, authorities said.
Both defendants are being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. Gonzalez-Navarro has previous convictions for burglary, robbery and unlawful firearm activity, court records show. Gonzalez has a prior burglary conviction.
HALF MOON BAY PORCH PIRATE SUSPECTS NABBED: Three alleged porch pirates in Half Moon Bay have been arrested by San Mateo County sheriff’s investigators.
Marcus Cooper, 52, of Vallejo; Deshawn Smith, 33, of Pacifica and Daniel Lucero, 24, of San Leandro were booked on suspicion of mail theft, auto burglary and theft.
The incident began about 3:30 p.m. Feb. 11 when a deputy patrolling the 300 block of Poplar Street saw a suspicious black Audi with the three suspects inside, authorities said.
The driver spotted the deputy and pulled into a driveway to look as if he had business there, officials said. But a citizen flagged down the deputy, saying, “There is something up with that vehicle; they dno’t live there.”
The car left the home, and the deputy saw that several boxes had been discarded in its place. The deputy stopped the car in the parking lot of Poplar Beach.
Authorities determined that the suspects had stolen several packages from the porches of homes on Railroad Avenue in Half Moon Bay, investigators said.
