Rooted in Oakland: NBA legend Gary Payton gives back to his alma mater
OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - An Oakland native and NBA legend made a donation to his alma mater.
Gary Payton played 17 years in the NBA, but never forgot his roots at Skyline High School in Oakland.
The Payton foundation teamed up with the Oakland A's to give $5,000 to help support Skyline's basketball program.
Payton visited with students inside the school gym on Thursday, where he handed out baseball caps and vouchers for two tickets to an upcoming Oakland A's game.
Payton started his NBA career as a guard with the Seattle Supersonics. He won two Olympic gold medals and an NBA title with the Miami Heat in 2006.
