Runners whizz through city for Oakland Marathon

Runners hit the pavement Sunday morning for the Oakland Marathon.

The event included 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon races around Lake Merritt and Downtown Oakland, with a portion of the route spanning the Bay Bridge.

The Oakland -Alameda County Coliseum Board unanimously approved a new proposal for the Oakland Coliseum on Friday, that did not center on baseball, but rather, a different kind of pitch. 

The marathon started at 7 a.m. as hundreds of runners whizzed through the city.

Various road closures were set up around downtown Oakland, Lake Merritt, and Jack London Square.
