Salinas man wounded in shooting succumbs to injuries

SALINAS, Calif. (KTVU and wires) -- A 37-year-old man wounded in an allegedly gang-related shooting in Salinas on Wednesday night succumbed to his injuries early Thursday morning, police said.

The victim, identified by police as Francisco Solorio, was injured in a shooting reported at 7:55 p.m. in the parking lot of 1022 Del Monte Ave.

Officers responded and found Solorio lying in a parking lot and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was placed on a ventilator at Natividad Medical Center but was pronounced dead at 3 a.m., police said.

Witnesses said two suspects approached the victim and asked about his gang affiliation, then one pulled out a gun and shot him several times at close range when the victim said he was a Sureno gang member, according to police.

Police described one suspect as a Hispanic man who is short in stature and wore a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The second suspect was described as a man about 20 years old who is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and wore a black hat, black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
