San Francisco police shoot, kill hit-and-run suspect near Union Square: SFPD
SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco police shot and killed a man after he allegedly drove his car onto the sidewalk and hit two pedestrians Thursday night, authorities said.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, officers responded to the area of Kearny and Post streets around 6:30 p.m. after a car drove onto the sidewalk at a "high rate of speed" and hit two people. Police say the driver then continued toward a bicyclist before leaving the area.
Just after 1:30 a.m. Friday, police say they found the suspect's car near Grant Avenue and Post Street. Officers then set up a perimeter to find the suspect, and during an encounter with the man, an officer-involved shooting occurred, police said.
Police say the man was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Officers say they located a gun at the scene that they believe belonged to the suspect.
According to police, the two pedestrians struck by the suspect's car suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have not identified the man shot and killed by officers, though they say he may have been employed as a security guard at a nearby Dior store.
Police have not said what led up to the shooting or what prompted officers to use their weapons.

In a press conference Friday morning, police said they'd like to speak to the bicyclist who was allegedly followed after the hit-and-run. They're asking the bicyclist and any other witnesses to come forward.
The department will hold a town hall meeting within 10 days regarding the police shooting.
