SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - Friday at 6:28 p.m., San Francisco Police were called to Oak and Stanyan Streets near Golden Gate Park for a double shooting. When police arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
“One of the shooting victims died from his injuries and the other, an adult male, is listed in life threatening status at the hospital,” said Sgt. Michael Andraychak.
Police believe the shooter fled the scene by carjacking a silver Toyota 4 Runner.
At 12:13 AM Saturday, officers spotted the stolen Toyota 4 Runner on De Harro and Alameda Streets. Officers said the hood of the Toyota was still warm. It was parked directly behind an RV.
“They made contact with the occupants of that vehicle and asked them to step outside to do a well-being check,” said Sgt. Andraychak.
“Numerous people came out recreational vehicle and the officers were then able to determine there was one subject in the RV that refused to come out.”
Neighbors in the De Harro Street apartment complex said they woke when police lights and sirens came on the street, but they then heard gunfire.
“I was still half asleep and then I heard basically it sounded like two pops. And then all hell broke loose,” said Eugene Pak who lives in the nearby apartment building.
“There was a bunch of pops. I actually rolled off my bed to be sure.”
Police did not provide details on the officer-involved shooting and would not confirm in the man in the
RV was armed, citing that it’s under investigation. Several bullet holes were visible on the RV before it was towed on Saturday afternoon.
Police said no one was injured in the shooting. After a crisis negotiator was called to the scene, the man in the RV surrendered. It’s unknown if he owns or lives in the RV parked on De Harro Street.
Police said he’s a person-of-interest in the homicide on the panhandle.
