San Francisco police SUV crashes into building

San Francisco police SUV crashes into building.

The driver of a San Francisco police SUV crashed into a white car and the corner of a building early Monday morning, causing damage to the cruiser.

San Francisco police officer Pauline Henderson said in an email that officers were patrolling the area of 9th and Howard streets at 3:20 a.m. when they saw a car that had evaded them the day before "driving recklessly and committing multiple traffic violations."

Henderson said that police tried to stop the driver of the white car, but the person didn't listen, and they started to chase the driver.

The driver of the white car smashed into a pole, and the police cruiser hit a building near San Bruno and Paul avenues, Henderson said.

The suspect got out of the white car and ran away, but police were able to arrest two people, who were also taken to the hospital for medical evaluation, Henderson said.

Police did not identify the suspects and no charges were filed by the DA as of Monday morning.

Two police officers were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police found a gun at the scene.

After Measure E passed in 2024, San Francisco changed its policies where police can now chase suspects for all felonies and violent misdemeanors.

There is no maximum speed and pursuits do not need to be terminated once the helicopter can see the suspect.
