Sand Fire grows to 2,220 acres, 20 percent containment, evacuations in effect

RUMSEY, Calif. (KTVU) - Cal Fire is battling a fire that is burning out of control in Yolo County, in the town of Rumsey, about 35-miles northwest of Woodland and 45-miles from the city of Davis.

As of 4:20 p.m. Sunday, the fire as 2,220 acres in size, with 20% contained.

Sandi Wargo, Public Information Officer of the North Bay Incident Management Team supporting Cal Fire spoke to KTVU on "Mornings on 2" Sunday and provided an update on the Sand Fire.

Wargo said the fire grew a hundred acres overnight to1,800 acres.

The fire has burned 5 outbuildings and 1 barn, but no homes have caught fire, and there were no injuries.

About 140 residents have been evacuated as a precaution in this rural area.

Wargo said residents saw the destruction that was caused by wildfires in the last few years, and are now more vigilent and listening to authorities.

She has received calls from people asking evacuation routes, and how quickly they will need to leave.
