Lanes reopen on I-580 in Oakland after overturned vehicle blocked traffic

Traffic: Westbound I-580 lanes blocked by overturned vehicle in Oakland

There is a severe traffic alert in Oakland where several lanes of westbound I-580 are blocked by an overturned vehicle east of Park Boulevard. The driver was allegedly driving recklessly before they overturned and had to be hospitalized.

The California Highway Patrol is reporting an overturned vehicle on westbound I-580 east of Park Boulevard in Oakland. All lanes are now open after blocking traffic on Friday. 

CHP confirmed there are injuries from this solo vehicle collision that happened at around 5:30 p.m. 

A call came in from a witness who described a reckless driver on the freeway at Lake Park before the driver overturned. 

The driver's injuries are described as major. They were taken to a hospital for treatment. CHP said the driver is suspected of driving under the influence. 

At first, all the lanes were closed due to the crash before two of the lanes reopened. Drivers were told to expect delays and use alternate routes as there was no estimated time for the roadway to fully reopen.
