Sexual battery reported near UC Berkeley campus

A suspect has been taken into custody in a sexual battery case that took place two blocks from the University of California at Berkeley campus early Saturday morning, police said.

A UC Berkeley officer was approached around 1:15 a.m. by a woman who told him she was walking on Telegraph Avenue near Channing Way when a man cornered her and grabbed her breast, police said.

Officers searched the area and arrested a man who matched the description of the suspect, according to police.

The man was not arrested on suspicion of sexual battery, but on suspicion of other offenses, police said.

The suspect was turned over to the Berkeley Police Department, police said.
