Sexual battery suspect identified by El Cerrito police

Police in El Cerrito have identified a sexual battery suspect in last month's assault of a woman. 

The assault of a hearing and vision-impaired woman happened on November 13 at around 3:30 p.m. Police are now saying the suspect, identified as Hugo Martinez Ortigoza, 28, who last resided in Richmond, followed his victim for several blocks until she arrived at a more secluded residential area on Stockton Avenue near Elm Street. 

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 20s with a thin to medium build. In surveillance images of the suspect previously provided by police, he was wearing a dark gray beanie, a light gray sweatshirt, dark pants, and white and black shoes.

Police said a few people contacted the department after these photos were issued and provided investigator's with the man's name. 

The man approached the woman from behind and slapped her on the buttock, according to police. 

Investigators have obtained a warrant for Ortigoza's arrest for Felony Sexual Battery of a Seriously Disabled Subject.
