SFPD motorcycle officer in serious condition after crash
SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - A San Francisco police officer is hospitalized in serious condition after a crash Wednesday morning.
The officer was on a motorcycle when it crashed with a car at 9:37 a.m. at Mariposa Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.
The officer, a 12-year veteran, was transported by ambulance to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital in life-threatening condition, but was upgraded to serious by early evening.
The officer's family and colleagues are with him at the hospital.
The other driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Witnesses say the woman who hit the officer stopped to help
Witnesses told KTVU the woman was wearing medical scrubs and comforted the officer, who was alert and conscious after the crash.
The circumstances leading up to the wreck are under investigation.
Witnesses said the intersection is known for speeding motorists and that the problem has gotten worse after a nearby stop sign was replaced by a traffic light. They said many motorists who have the green light simply speed through the intersection.
