NOVATO (BCN) Two suspects have been detained in high-risk tactical raids in Novato on Thursday, Marin County sheriff's officials said.

Both of the suspects are Novato High School students.

Sheriff's officials wrote on Twitter at 2:12 p.m. about a raid in the area of Rowland and South Novato boulevards. They said at 3:09 p.m. that one juvenile suspect had been detained and no one was injured.

Then 4:23 p.m. deputies announced that a second suspect had been detained in a tactical operation on Leafwood Drive.

An armored vehicle pulled up and someone used a loud speaker to demand the person turn themselves in.  Moments later the suspect surrendered without incident.  He walked down the stairs with his hands in the air.

"As far as what information we had that led us here today. It's not something we can disclose at this point," says Marin County Sheriff Lt. Doug Pittman.

Sheriff's officials did not immediately release the names of the suspects, but said earlier this afternoon that investigators were "playing full-court press" in seeking three suspects after two Novato High School
students were shot, one fatally, on Wednesday.

One suspect remains at large, and deputies said this afternoon that investigators are regrouping with a focus on apprehending that individual.

.  "We're actively trying to pursue any further leads that might help us identify again the identity and location of that individual," says Pittman.  Investigators stress theses shootings were targeted and don't believe the general public is at risk.

The students were shot at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the end of Fairway Drive. Deputies responded and found one victim who had been shot and stabbed, as well as a second who was fatally shot. The student who survived was in stable condition as of this morning, sheriff's Lt. Doug Pittman said.

"Thankfully his condition is improving quite a bit, he is in a position to talk to our detectives which is opening up this case quite a bit," said Pittman.

Novato police had advised people to stay clear of the area and shelter in place during the raid this afternoon.

Wednesday's fatal shooting prompted Novato Unified School District officials to cancel classes today at Novato High School, located at 625 Arthur St.

Friday school will be closed to students as it's a teacher’s development day. Students will return to classes on Tuesday.
