SAN LEANDRO, Calif. - Alameda County sheriff's deputies on Wednesday arrested a suspect in connection with a homicide near San Leandro.
KTVU has learned Carlos Maurice Smith, 54, was arrested on suspicion of murder in what authorities said was a case of domestic violence involving his girlfriend.
The deadly shooting occurred at Smith's home near the corner of 166th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard in unincorporated San Leandro.
Deputies responded to the home at about 9:30 a.m.They confirmed the man and the woman were still inside. Deputies formulated a plan to get inside the home and blocked off streets. Dispatchers tried to contact both people inside over the phone.

But at about 9:45 a.m., 15 minutes after deputies first arrived, they heard a single shot inside. The suspect came to the front door and surrendered, said sheriff's Lt. Tya Modeste.
Deputies found a woman dead from a gunshot wound to her head.
The sheriff's office said this appeared to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to public safety.
There was a heavy sheriff's presence in the area when a KTVU reporter arrived.
Neighbor Verenice Vazquez said the violence made her feel very "anxious."
