An investigation is underway after police shot and killed a man near the Palisades Tahoe ski resort.

About 11:30 a.m. on Friday, police in Tahoe City tried to pull over a carjacking suspect who they said was driving erratically.

The driver took off and led them on a chase, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

That chase ended near the Palisades Tahoe at the Olympic Village Inn, where police say the man pulled out a knife and a state parks police officer opened fire.

State park officials said they tried to treat the man's injuries, but he died at the scene.
