San Francisco supervisor calls for vehicle seizures as sideshow activity increases

San Francisco Supervisor Ahsha Safai is calling for the seizure of vehicles that participate in illegal sideshow activity. Over the weekend, four people were injured by a participant vehicle in the Mission and a sideshow snarled traffic in the SoMa neighborhood near Embarcadero.

Earlier Sunday, a sideshow stopped traffic at South Van Ness and 13th Street. San Francisco police moved the drivers along and made no arrests.

San Francisco Supervisor Ahsha Safai said he's working on legislation to increase penalties for sideshow participants.

"That adds up to thousands of dollars, and you don't have your car for two weeks. It will be the deterrent that we're looking for," Safai said.

Four people were hurt Saturday night after they were hit a by a vehicle during a sideshow in the Mission District. That incident is being investigated by police as a hit-and-run.

In the East Bay, a suspect was arrested after he spun donuts in Crockett and then took off, driving along the shoulder of I-80 in Emeryville at one point and spinning out on the Grand Avenue exit near the Bay Briddge. He was tracked by a CHP airplane and was  later arrested by Oakland police.

He was driving a Ford Crown Victoria, a model that was popular with police. On the back window were stickers, including one that read, " All gas, no brakes."
