South Bay cold murder case sees break, arrests made
SUNNYVALE. Calif. - There's been a break in a Sunnyvale cold case murder, according to the city's department of public safety.
The Sunnyvale DPS' SWAT team arrested Vicente Aguilera-Chavez and Agustin Sandoval, and the Santa Clara County District Attorney has charged the pair with murder.
On June 8, 2017, a 21-year-old and 24-year-old were shot around 2 a.m. at the Fair Oaks strip mall in the 900 block of E. Duane Avenue in the San Miguel neighborhood. The 21-year-old was declared dead at the scene while the 24-year-old survived his injuries.

Officials said at the time, "some kind of altercation" occurred that preceded the shooting. The investigation into the killing went cold until sometime in 2024, when Sunnyvale DPS detectives identified the suspects.
Aguilera-Chavez and Sandoval were taken into custody on Thursday and Friday. Their apprehension was assisted by the East Palo Alto and Stockton Police Departments, alongside the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office and FBI.
