Starbucks said the decision to close came as part of an ongoing practice to evaluate its store portfolio.
What they're saying:
"We value our long-time relationship with the city of San Jose and look forward to our continued participation as part of the community in neighborhoods citywide," the coffee giant told KTVU in a statement, adding, "We do not take the decision to close stores lightly."
By the numbers:
The downtown area is still home to two other nearby Starbucks. Those stores are at E. Santa Clara and 5th streets and at 150 S. First Street.
Citywide, there are about 50 Starbucks locations.
The company said that it was working with the employees' union, Workers United, to discuss transfer options for the ten team members at the shuttered location.
