PALO ALTO, Calif. (KTVU) - Dozens of people camped outside the Palo Alto Apple Store Thursday night to be some of the first to get their hands on the new iPhone X when it goes on sale Friday morning.
Apple expects its latest product to bring a big boost between now and Christmas.
About 100 chairs were set up Thursday night along University Avenue in Downtown Palo Alto.
"I'm 61-years-old and I'm standing in line for the amazing new iPhone that comes out tomorrow," said Greg Duerr of Sunnyvale.
Duerr has waited in line for Barbra Streisand tickets but never an iPhone.
"Why? Because it's a momentous sort of occasion," said Duerr.
This anticipation comes the same day Apple announced it expects $84-87 billion in revenue this holiday shopping season, saying its iPhone sales rose 3% in the last quarter thanks to the iPhone 8 and 8 plus.
"I think it's good news for Apple. First of all that they've done well with the 8 because a lot of people didn't expect that," said technology analyst Larry Magid.
Magid says there is huge expectation for Apple's newest high-end product.
The iPhone X comes with a $999 price tag.
Product changes include wireless charging, no home button and for the first time in an Apple product: facial recognition.
Analysts expect the Cupertino-based company to ship 80 million iPhones through the holiday shopping season.
"Apple is expecting a very good run on the iPhone X. Now some people might say, 'Why would anybody in their right mind spend more than $1000 for a phone?" Well a lot of people will," said Magid.
Including Kathy Jen and her husband from Sunnyvale.
She says technology brought them together, considering they met online.
12 years later, their date night is actually a cold camp out.
"This is camp out 3 or 4. Every time they release a new phone we upgrade. It's Apple! How could you not have the next, greatest thing?" said Kathy Jen.
Apple has a lot of competition and analysts say they need to cater to customers with various size phones and features or risk losing them to another product.
