Mill Valley structure fire briefly prompts evacuations, shelter-in-place now lifted
MILL VALLEY, Calif. - A structure fire in Mill Valley briefly forced evacuations and then a shelter-in-place Wednesday evening, authorities said.
The fire was reported around 7:20 p.m. in the area of George Lane in Scott Valley. Within the hour, The Mill Valley Police Department said the fire was contained to a single residence on George Lane and surrounding vegetation.
Officials said the evacuations that were ordered for the areas of Underhill, Lula, Albert, Compton, Benson, Coach, and Salt Creek were downgraded to a shelter-in-place. By 8:30 p.m., the shelter-in-place was lifted.
Police and fire crews are expected to remain in the area. It is not clear what caused this fire.
