Valentine's Day just won't be the same this year, as Sweethearts candy hearts will not be on store shelves for the first time in a century.
Spangler Candy Co. acquried Sweethearts and Necco Wafers in September 2018 after Necco went out of business, but didn't have time to produce the billions of candy hearts necessary to keep up with demand.
After a year break, the Valentine's Day staple should be available for purchase in 2020.
“We look forward to announcing the Sweethearts relaunch for the 2020 Valentine season, and hope to reintroduce Necco Wafers to the marketplace in 2019,” Spangler Chairman and CEO Kirk Vashaw said in a release.
While the original candy hearts will not be available, Brach's and Sour Patch Kids have rolled out their own versions.
