LOS ANGELES - Parents shopping for baby food at Target are being warned to check their pantries after a major recall involving one of the store’s private-label products.
A Miami-based manufacturer, Fruselva, is recalling over 25,000 packages of its Good & Gather baby puree after detecting elevated levels of lead in the product. The affected food—Pea, Zucchini, Kale & Thyme Vegetable Puree—was sold in 4-ounce tubs and distributed through Target stores.
Which baby food is being recalled?
What's next:
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the recall affects the following products:
- Lot number 4167, with a best-by date of Dec. 7
- Lot number 4169, with a best-by date of Dec. 9
The FDA initiated the recall in March. While it’s classified as a Class II recall, meaning the product isn’t likely to cause serious harm, the potential for temporary or reversible health problems remains.
Health officials say children should not consume the affected baby food. There is no safe level of lead exposure for children, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Lead exposure can lead to serious developmental and cognitive issues, particularly in infants and toddlers.
