Teen, 3 others dead in Central Valley car crash: CHP

At least four people are dead, including a teenager, following a crash Sunday morning in the Central Valley

The California Highway Patrol said around 9:25 a.m. they received a call about a crash on State Route 165 at Greenway Avenue. Officers arrived at the scene and came across two cars with major damage involving six people, including two teenagers and two young adults.

The crash left a 16-year-old teenage girl from Turlock dead. Officials said the teen succumbed to her injuries at Doctors Medical Center.

According to their preliminary investigation, a 22-year-old Modesto man driving a 2008 Infiniti sedan was speeding northbound on SR-165, approaching Greenway Avenue and struck the left side of a 2023 Jeep SUV driving westbound on Greenway Avenue.

Officials said the Jeep was entering the intersection directly in front of the Infiniti. The 22-year-old driver was not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene.

The 54-year-old male driver and 45-year-old female front right passenger, both from Turlock, also died at the scene. The teenager who died was the left rear passenger of the Jeep.

Also in the Jeep were a 19-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy from Turlock. Both have major injuries and were taken to local area trauma centers.

Officials said that everyone in the Jeep was wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

They say it's unclear at this time if drugs and/or alcohol played a factor in this crash.

The collision caused a temporary closure between Lander and Simmons Avenue.
