Another violent incident at Bart's Powell Street station: man kidnaps 17-year-old girl

There have been two violent incidents at Barts Powell Street Station in just over a week's time. The kidnapping of a teenager girl follows the death of a 74-year-old hotel worker after she was pushed by a mentally ill, homeless man.

A teenage girl was rescued and a man was arrested early Wednesday morning after an alleged kidnapping in San Francisco the night before, police said.

Witnesses at the San Francisco Powell Street Station told police they saw the girl being forcibly removed from the station and pulled into a car on Tuesday at 8 p.m. by a man who was later identified as 37-year-old Jamall Blue, BART police alleged.

Interview: BART police on rescue of teen girl kidnapped at station

BART Police Chief Kevin Franklin speaks with KTVU about the rescue of a teenager from a kidnapping at the San Francisco Powell Street Station.

Shortly after the kidnapping, the girl's parents filed a missing persons report.

BART police started looking for the car and found it, along with Blue, about 3 a.m. Wednesday.

It's unknown if Blue and the teen had known each other previously.

BART Police Chief Kevin Franklin said it doesn't appear the kidnapping was random and that there's some tie between the victim and suspect.

SFPD did not say where Blue and the car were found, and Franklin would also not verify the information.

It's unclear if the girl was found in the car with Blue, but police did confirm she was found early Wednesday morning and referred to the appropriate juvenile services. She has since been reunited with her family.
