Three people were hit and trapped by a falling tree in Santa Calara

Three hikers were hit and trapped after a 50-6- foot Oak tree fell in Almaden Quicksilver Park on Monday. Police say the three people were taken to the hospital with minor and moderate injures.

Parks officials in Santa Clara County say three people were injured when a tree fell on Monday morning in Almaden Quicksilver Park.

Officials told KTVU a 50-60 foot Oak tree fell onto the hikers as they were walking along the Mine Hill trail  and trapped them.

"The side of the trail it fell on is extremely steep so had it knocked any of them off the trail they would have fallen significantly down the side of the hill probably receiving more significant injuries," said one official.

Officials transported the three people to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Officials say the hikers are lucky to be alive.
