MILPITAS, Calif. (KTVU) - A South Bay High School was placed under 2 lockdowns Thursday afternoon after police say a student brought a gun to campus.
The first lockdown happened around noon at Milpitas High School after police say a 14-year-old student brought a semi-automatic handgun and ammunition to campus.
The second lockdown happened a few hours later after a second report but no gun was found.
It all started around 12:05 p.m. Thursday afternoon when a school resource officer at Milpitas High School called police reporting a student with a gun on campus.
Milpitas Police say they arrived within minutes and soon after found the teenager in the bathroom and the weapon.
"Officers went into the bathroom, found the student. He did have a handgun on his person. He was taken into custody and was cooperative and did not resist. He's talking with detectives now," said Milpitas Police Lt. Raj Maharaj.
No one was injured.
Milpitas High was placed on lockdown for 30 minutes along with Pomeroy Elementary School and nearby Russell Middle School.
The lockdown was lifted and school resumed.
Then about 2 hours later around 2 p.m. police got another report about a 2nd student with a gun.
Turns out that student was already off campus. Police did contact him and found no weapon.
The school was given the all-clear around 3 p.m.
Police are still investigating the two incidents and are not saying yet if they may be linked.
Investigators say the 14-year-old boy who brought the handgun to school is a Milpitas resident. They are not identifying him because he's a juvenile.
He is facing charges of bringing a weapon to school and possibly more depending on the investigation.
Police say it's a reminder for parents to lock up their firearms.
