Two teens arrested on suspicion of recent gun-related crimes in Novato
NOVATO, Calif. - Police in Novato have made two arrests stemming from gun-related crimes involving juveniles, the department said Tuesday.
On Dec. 19, a 20-year-old victim was held at gunpoint near Novato High School by a group of teens, according to police. The teens stole the person's belongings and cash and then fled. The school went into lockdown while officers searched the campus and surrounding neighborhood, but no suspects were found.
Then on Sunday, a 14-year-old was shot in a residence in Novato and survived. The suspect fled before officers arrived and police used a K-9 to search the neighborhood but did not locate anyone.
Detectives worked in tandem with a school resource officer to investigate these shootings, with help from surveillance footage provided by community members.
Investigators believe the same firearm was likely used in both cases and allege that one of the suspects involved in the Dec. 19 robbery also participated in the Sunday shooting.
On Monday, police located and arrested the teen suspect. He was booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of the shooting and the robbery.
