President Morehead confirmed that the injured student, identified as Elle Eisele by her Florida high school, is receiving medical care.

"At this point, we have learned that Eisele was critically injured in the attack and is receiving medical treatment. I have spoken to the student’s family and shared my concern, support, and well wishes on behalf of the entire UGA community," he added. He also expressed gratitude to first responders and medical personnel, stating, "As we continue to hold the victims and their families in our thoughts and prayers, the University will do everything in its power to support those in our community who have been impacted by this unspeakable event."

Later on Wednesday, the Canterbury School in Fort Myers, Florida, identified Eisele as an alumna of the school. Another former Canterbury student, Steele Idelson, was also injured in the attack, a school spokesperson confirmed. In a statement, the Canterbury School expressed the families’ gratitude for the support they have received.

"The Eisele and Idelson families are deeply grateful for the outpouring of thoughts, prayers, and offers of support for our daughters following the tragic attack in New Orleans. We are especially thankful for the exceptional care and compassion they are receiving at University Medical Center. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the first responders, whose swift actions may have saved our daughters’ lives. To everyone who has reached out with love and support, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

The school highlighted Eisele’s academic achievements on its Facebook page, noting she is a biology major on a pre-med track at UGA. Idelson, who graduated from Canterbury School, is now studying psychology at San Diego State University.

The attack allegedly involved a man, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar from Texas, who drove into a crowded section of Bourbon Street, claiming the lives of at least 15 people and leaving 35 others injured. The suspect was killed by New Orleans police following a gunfight, during which two officers sustained injuries.

The University of Georgia’s football team is in New Orleans to play Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl at the Superdome, an event that has drawn tens of thousands of UGA fans to the city. Earlier on Wednesday, the UGA band announced that all its members and staff were safe.
