Vallejo residents want Newsom to deploy CHP officers to help stop crime

Vallejo residents say they're fed up with lawlessness in their city. One woman started an online petition to ask Governor Gavin Newsom to deploy a surge of CHP officers to improve public safety. They say sideshows and sex trafficking are ongoing problems that need to be addressed right away. So far, the petition has garnered more than 3,000 signatures.

Authorities are investigating a Christmas Eve shooting that left one man dead in Vallejo.

According to the Vallejo Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting around 12:56 a.m. in the 200 block of Broadway Street.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but the man died from his injuries at the scene.

The suspect fled before officers arrived.

The victim's identity will be released by the Solano County Coroner's Office.

The killing marks Vallejo's 24th homicide of the year.
