National Parks are free for Veterans Day
LOS ANGELES - In celebration of Veterans Day, the National Park Service (NPS) is inviting everyone to explore America’s national parks with free entry on November 11.
Veterans, active-duty military members, and Gold Star Families can enjoy year-round access to national parks with the NPS Military Pass, offering a unique chance to explore the country’s rich natural and historical sites.
Plan Your Park Visit
How to Prepare:
- Choose a Park: With more than 400 national parks nationwide, you’re likely to find a location that fits your interests, whether it’s a historical site or a natural wonder. Check options at nps.gov/findapark.
- Check for Reservations: While entrance fees are waived, some parks may still require advance reservations.
- Get the Military Pass: For year-round free access, eligible service members, veterans, and Gold Star Families can get a Military Pass at any fee-charging park by showing valid ID.
Before You Go:
- Stay Updated on Conditions: Each park’s operating hours, weather, and facilities vary, so it’s best to check the latest information on the park’s website.
- Pack Essentials: Ensure you bring water, snacks, maps, and appropriate clothing to make your visit comfortable.
In the Park:
- Follow Safety Guidelines: Stick to designated trails, park legally, and be mindful of park rules to preserve the area’s beauty and safety.
- Respect Wildlife: Admire animals from a distance without feeding or approaching them.
- Leave No Trace: Dispose of all waste, including food and pet waste, to keep parks clean.
"We’re thrilled to offer free access to our national parks on Veterans Day, and we especially encourage military families, veterans, and Gold Star Families to get the Military Pass for year-round entry," says NPS Director Chuck Sams. "As a veteran, I know how meaningful it is for service members and their families to connect with our history and natural beauty."
