BERKELEY, Calif. (KTVU) - Berkeley police arrested a parolee on multiple sexual assault charges, including attacking a minor, on Thursday, officials said.
Alphonso McInnis, 27, was apprehended on the 1900 block of University Avenue in Berkeley at 2:12 p.m. on Thursday. An investigation into a sexual assault on a minor that occurred April 19 led detectives to McInnis. And when video from an attack on a University of California, Berkeley student surfaced, detectives were able to clearly identify McInnis as the attacker in this incident, too.
The April 19 attack involved a "high school-aged minor" that was walking on the 1500 block of Addison Street. McInnis allegedly grabbed the victim from behind, covered her mouth and pressed a gun to the side of her head. He told her not to scream and walked her to the side yard of a residence where he sexually assaulted her.
And then on April 28, a Cal student was attacked near the intersection of College Avenue and Channing Way. The victim was chased to a dormitory building on Channing Way. The suspect produced a handgun and tried to push the victim off the street and in between buildings.
But the victim got away momentarily and ran as the suspect chased her. Then a second struggle ensued at the entrance to Slottman Hall – also on Channing Way. The struggle, which was captured on video, ended when the victim fought to escape and got through the front door.
