Video released in shooting death of married father
OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - Oakland police released surveillance video Thursday of three assailants wanted in connection with the shooting death of a married father of four in August.
Chrystian Valdez Negrete, 40, had just left La Frontera nightclub near 44th Avenue and International Boulevard at about 2 a.m. Aug. 11 when one of the assailants opened fire from a block away. Negrete died at the scene, while a second man was wounded.
Surveillance video shows the assailants walking away from the nightclub, where moments earlier they had tried to rob people leaving the establishment, police said.
The three then stop about a block away, where one of them opens fire numerous times. Muzzle flashes can be seen in the surveillance video. The three are then seen running away.
"The act was really malicious," said Oakland police Officer Wenceslao Garcia, who is investigating the case with Officer Phong Tran.
"After the failed attempt robbery, they proceeded to shoot into a crowd randomly, not knowing that their actions would cause a death," Garcia said.
A police officer heard the gunfire and arrived within moments, but Negrete died at the scene. He had worked for Bay Area Beverage Company in Richmond for 16 years. He leaves behind his wife Maria and four children.
His employer and Oakland police are offering a combined $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with tips is asked to call homicide investigators at (510) 238-3821.
