Westbound Highway 37 remains closed following levee breach, flooding
NOVATO, Calif. (BCN) - City of Novato officials said Monday that both westbound lanes of State Highway 37 between Atherton Avenue and U.S. Highway 101 in Novato will remain closed for the immediate future, as will one of two eastbound lanes.
Construction continues on levee repair work near Highway 37 in Marin County. The breached levee has allowed water to flood the freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.
That flooding also damaged a Northwestern Pacific Railroad trestle adjacent to Highway 37, taking that freight-only track temporarily out of service.
There is currently no estimated time for when the lanes will reopen. In the meantime, the CHP advises to use alternative routes. For information on local road conditions and incidents, visit https://511.org
