OAKLAND, Calif. - Now that the A's s are gone, here's what's ahead for the team and the Oakland Coliseum.
Professional sports, concerts and shows will continue to play out at the venue.
The African-American Sports and Entertainment Group is buying the Coliseum, the Oakland Arena and the land in between.
"We are being approached by every sports organization you can imagine," AASEG co-founder Ray Bobbitt said on Friday. "This is going to be a multi-use site, very similar to what you see at Mission Bay."
Some of those organizations include an international cricket league, Disney on Ice, monster truck shows, concerts like Anita Baker and Usher, and the Oakland Roots men's soccer club, which will start playing their first of 17 games at the Coliseum there in March.
Roots President Lindsay Barenz told KTVU that they realize the storied 1960s-era Coliseum stadium is important to Oakland: Many people met their spouses at the stadium over the decades and now bring their kids there.
"That's a legacy we want to continue," Barnez said.
In addition to events, Bobbitt said his group also wants to discuss developing the area around the Coliseum.
He said his group executives plan to meet with various neighborhood councils in the East Bay to get community input on what future projects in the area should look like.
The Oakland Roots men's soccer team will play at the Coliseum.
As for the A's, the baseball team will play their next three seasons in Sacramento at Sutter Health Park, a Minor League stadium where the Sacramento River Cats also play.
The A's are scheduled to play their first game on March 31, 2025, against the Chicago Cubs.
They're scheduled to play 81 games there, into June and July, where the average daily high temperature is about 95 degrees. There will be no day games for the A's during that time of year.
Then, the A's are supposed to relocate to Las Vegas.
The 33,0000-seat, $1.5-billion stadium will be built along the Las Vegas strip at the site of the Tropicana Hotel, which is scheduled to be torn down next month.
That future stadium is expected to be completed in 2028.
