A 61-year-old woman evaded authorities Tuesday morning in a minivan, and drank from a bottle of Cognac before being arrested.

According to CHP Santa Cruz, Capitola officers tried to pull a driver suspected of DUI over on Soquel Wharf Road near Porter Street.

The woman, who was driving a 2000 Honda Odyssey, didn't stop and led police on a chase, entering southbound Highway 1.

CHP took over the pursuit, following the woman into Monterey County.

Officers tried to deploy spike trips twice. The second attempt worked, and the minivans tires were deflated near Del Monte Blvd. Although her minivan's tires were flat, the woman continued to drive.

She tried to make a U-turn north of Reservation Road, and that's when her vehicle got stuck in the dirt.

According to Capitola Police, the woman climbed into the backseat of the minivan and wouldn't comply with officers who were asking her to get out of the vehicle.

Officers could see her drinking from a large bottle, which they later learned was Cognac. They ended up breaking the minivan's windows to arrest the woman.

She was arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.
