Woman's body found near scene of fire along Antioch trail
ANTIOCH, Calif. - Police in Antioch are investigating a homicide after a female body was discovered Monday morning along a trail in Antioch.
The body was found about 5:30 a.m. after a small fire was reported on the paved city trail north of Lopez Drive, between Gentrytown Drive and Contra Loma Boulevard.
When the Contra Costa Fire Protection District arrived they found a human body on fire. Police and arson investigators soon arrived, but unfortunately the woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene, police said. Her age, race and identity are not known at this time.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze.
No suspects have been found in connection with the death or the fire, police said.
Detectives are working to identify the victim and are interviewing witnesses and residents of the area.
