World famous dumpling restaurant Din Tai Fung opens doors in the Bay Area
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KTVU) - Bay Area dumpling lovers: Your day has come.
The world-famous dumpling palace, Din Tai Fung opened its first restaurant in the Bay Area on Tuesday.
The new location is at Valley Fair mall in Santa Clara and when doors opened at 11am, there were already long lines forming.
Diners we spoke to said the 3 hour wait was worth it.
Founded in Taiwan almost 60 years ago, Din Tai Fung has become a cult favorite and hours long waits are not uncommon.
A look at the chaotic scene:
The new South Bay restaurant is about 8,200 sq. ft. and seats 200 guests in the mall's dining terrace.
Be ready to carve out a couple hours waiting for a table. You may be able to even get some shopping in.
Restaurant representatives say that a text message system will give customers an opportunity to walk around the mall while they wait to be seated.
