OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU/BCN) - BART ridership hit a new record high on Saturday and is expected to spike again, the transit agency said.
According to BART spokesperson Jim Allison, at least 419,162 people took BART Saturday.
The busiest weekend before that was in October 2012 when 319,000 people rode BART, BART officials said.
Various Super Bowl 50 events happening throughout San Francisco and other Bay Area cities contributed to the spike in numbers.
BART is running longer trains Sunday for more expected big numbers, but despite the crowds, they say trains got people where they needed to go.
