Sharks name stray cat that ran on ice after team captain
SAN JOSE, Calif. - A special furry friend made an appearance on the ice before the San Jose Sharks 5-2 victory over the Nashville Predators Friday at the SAP Center, according to Sharks officials.
A small, black cat, affectionately named "Joe PAW-velski" took to the ice for warm-ups running along the boards towards the giant Shark Head, Sharks officials said.
He escaped beneath the seating stands through an open door, and on Saturday SAP Center staff safely retrieved him.
Shark officials said they have made arrangements for the cat to be transferred to a local animal shelter where he will go a full health examination and a microchip scan to ensure he doesn't have an owner.
Sharks officials said if the cat is made available for adoption, they will make more information available via the team's social media channels.
