The Marin County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday extended a county eviction moratorium for the fourth time for residents economically suffering during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The country may be on the precipice of seeing the largest homeless population in the entire American experience.

As of Wednesday, the county had recorded a total of 4,375 COVID-19 cases and 88 deaths, with the seven-day average hitting 146 infections, according to Contra Costa Health Services. 

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order Tuesday that authorizes local governments to halt evictions of renters impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic through September 30. 

A new report suggests more homeowners are looking to relocate from major Bay Area cities and other metropolitan areas in part due to the pandemic.

The Mandela Station Transit Oriented Development will have 762 housing units, 30 percent of which will be designated as affordable, 50,000 square feet of retail space, 300,000 square feet of office space and various amenities such as wider sidewalks and more crosswalks for pedestrians.  

That moratorium is set to expire May 31; the supervisors are scheduled to vote Tuesday whether to extend the moratorium until June 30.

The county's moratorium currently ends at the end of the month but allows the board to extend or shorten its duration depending on the state of the pandemic.

Some South Bay renters took to the streets on May Day, calling for a pass on first-of-the-month rental payments.

Alameda County has housed some 70 homeless residents in local hotel rooms during the novel coronavirus pandemic with plans for hundreds more, a spokeswoman for the county said Thursday.

Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an executive order on Friday temporarily banning the enforcement of eviction orders for California renters affected by the COVID-19 crisis. 

Some Bay Area cities have called for a halt on evictions because of non-payment amid the coronavirus crisis, but the long-term future for renters is still uncertain.
