KTVU expands partnership with Oakland Roots, Soul SC

KTVU is reaffirming its commitment to bring soccer fans to the Bay Area. It will now broadcast all of the Oakland Roots regular-season games on KTVU Plus and will remain the designated flagship English-language television station for the 2024 season. It's also going to air the Oakland Soul's home game in June. Mike Geddes, the Oakland Roots and Soul SC's chief purpose officer joined us on 'The Nine' to talk about the deal.

62,000 pounds of Fentanyl seized in California last year, local expert responds

The California National Guard seized more than 62,000 pounds of fentanyl in 2023. That's well more than double the amount from the year before. Braunz Courtney, the executive director of the HIV Education and Prevention Project of Alameda County, or HEPPAC, joined us on 'The Nine' to talk about how there have been several changes in how fentanyl is viewed, used and sold.

Alameda Restaurant Week begins through next Sunday, March 10th. And several restaurants across the island will be part of the event. Stanford helps develop food allergy treatment

A medical research team at Stanford University has come up with the first ever treatment for food allergies. The FDA recently approved the use of the medication, called Xolair. Doctors say dramatically reduces the risk of a possible life threatening reaction to peanuts, wheat and other food allergies. Doctor Sharon Chinthrajah, who is an Allergy and Immunology Professor at Stanford University joined us on The Nine to talk about how it works.
