Even though the officers lost their Skelly hearing, the officers now may proceed to arbitration to fight to keep their jobs. That date has not been set.

Police responded just after 7 p.m. Saturday to the intersection of Maritime Street and Middle Harbor Road, within the Port of Oakland, where police Officer Johnna Watson said approximately 100 vehicles, and an unknown number of spectators, had gathered.

Police were called to the 2600 block of 35th Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. on reports of a collision and learned that the man was in an unmarked crosswalk at the intersection of 35th and Brookdale avenues when he was struck by a vehicle described as a Mercedes R class MPV traveling northbound that fled the scene.

The five Oakland police officers who shot and killed a homeless man in March 2018 are closer to being terminated after losing an important employment hearing.

Oakland police responding about 2:30 a.m. to the crash at Seventh Street and Frontage Road at Interstate Highway 880 found a silver 2004 Honda Civic that had struck a concrete wall.

The employee is currently offsite, self-quarantined, and recovering. The employee has not been to work since March 15, 2020.

Police commissioner, Ginale Harris, is firing back.

The Oakland Police Commission fired her without cause on Thursday, along with the blessing of Mayor Libby Schaaf. 

Anne Kirkpatrick said she believes she lost her job because she refused to reimburse commissioner Ginale Harris for towing fees.

Noel Gallo said that the reactions he’s been getting of the phone and through email, are mostly people  saying, “it’s no longer City Hall but Silly Hall.” 

The Oakland Police Commission in a closed-door meeting Thursday evening unanimously voted, joining Mayor Libby Schaaf, to fire police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick without cause.
